What an amazing joy to participate and observe first- hand the evolution of grandson Grey Golden now 2 1/2, while we nurture our prodigy of SLO Village in its second year of development. This year we also welcomed a 7-year-old poodle mix, Milou, into our family. As always, we are eager to receive your annual tidings.

Grey’s second birthday (5/8) was celebrated with family and friends on Mother’s Day 5/15 and included Danielle’s Dad Richard and his fiancée, Susie, as well as Uncle Brian and partner David. We have been delighted to have Grey for Saturdays, late night shifts when D & Chris are both working, and overnight when visiting friends in Palm Springs.

Grey had his first airplane trip, when the family went to Austin in February to visit friends, while we watched grand dog Lucy (now 10). Danielle, bar manager at popular Sidecar, where she has been featured in local media, was voted winner of the Grand Cocktail Award for SLO County.

Grey attends weekly gymnastics classes, music classes, and continues with the Parent Participation classes. He also loves his visits to the library and the Children’s Museum in town. He’s speaking in complete sentences, counting, and has known his colors for some time.

We hosted visits with Brian & David in March, May, and in celebration of Brian’s birthday in September and look forward to a reunion at Christmas. Brian & David continue to keep operational the historical piano bar (The Alley in Oakland) while managing to work in visits to Portland in January and Ashland and Crater Lake in April.

Our travel this year included a vacation with friends in Coronado, a family visit to Santa Barbara, the Village Movement California launch in LA, Dave’s Mom’s 95th birthday in Fresno, a vacation to the San Juan Islands in celebration of our 25th anniversary, our 23rd annual Monterey Jazz Festival, and a road trip to the national Village conference in San Diego with fellow Board members.

SLO Village has kept us (primarily Dave) busy with presentations, events and several media interviews, including a live radio broadcast (see links on our website: www.slovillage.org). We also won the Area Agency on Aging award for Senior Citizen Program of the Year, with recognition from our US Congressman, CA Assembly Member, CA Senator, and County Board of Supervisors. In May, we became founding members of the Village.

Movement California coalition of 50 Villages. We implemented a new identity focused on building community and social interactions for older adults, promoting independent living and lifelong learning while providing volunteer services to enable seniors to age in the community and remain in their own homes. Our big event this fall was “Revolutionize Aging”.

We are enjoying our SLO Life and sharing good times with neighbors and friends. As we anticipate our seasonal family gatherings and celebrations with friends, we wish you a joyous Christmas and many blessings in the New Year.

Love,

Meg & Dave
