Although this book is a novel, it is really based on the author's stories she had heard all her life about her grandmother. It is written in her grandmother's "voice". No wonder her granddaughter wrote about her! What a character. She helped her father break horses, taught school in a frontier town at age 15, and ran a ranch in Arizona. She went through tornadoes, floods, and droughts.I loved it because I love the country in Arizona and New Mexico and the author is such
a good writer. Her grandmother had spunk!
